Safety at Home

Each year, millions of older adults fall. Six out of every 10 falls happen at home, where we spend much of our time and tend to move around without thinking about our safety.

Making small changes within your home can have a big impact on safety:

Check for Safety: A Home Fall Prevention Checklist for Older Adults
  • Remove throw rugs and other objects from the floor
  • Place frequently used kitchen items in easy-to-reach cabinets
  • Install grab bars in the bathroom
  • Check to make sure the lighting is sufficient throughout your home
